Virtually Homeless

When I left the military, there was no home for me,
I would have been homeless, if it wasn't for my family,
I was sofa surfing, then I was sleeping on my dad's floor,
Forgive me for saying, I was hoping for a little more.

This topic is close to my heart, because they haven't got a place to start,
When you have no fixed abode, then you're travelling down a slippery road,
When you drop out of the system, society abandons you,
What they all need to understand, the homeless are human too.

If you've served your country, then it makes sense to me,
You should have a roof over your head, and at night sleep safely,
Many people will walk past, because you've become an outcast,
These people wont have a clue, of the conflict you've been through.

The way to gauge a country, is to take a look at the poor,
The gap between the rich and us, is forever getting more,
Just a very small gesture, goes a long, long way
Just saying hello and giving a pound, could brighten up their day.
